Storms & Fireweed
24" X 18" Original Acrylic on Canvas
2024
This painting, 'Storms & Fireweed: Rising from the Ash’
is inspired by a photo that I took in the burn scar area
of a recent wildfire in Northern Colorado.
Fireweed, a beautiful bright pink wildflower,
is often found re-populating burn areas.
It helps the land heal and it grows in nutrient dense soils
in the aftermath of wildfires.
For humans, when taken as a herbal Flower Essence,
Fireweed can energetically assist the process of healing
emotional wounds related to shock and trauma.
It helps us process the experience,
and symbolically and metaphorically rise through the ashes
and find our way back to balance.
The synergistic relationship between new plant growth,
and land recovery in the wake of natural disasters,
is of utmost interest to me.
Through painting this piece, and visiting burn scar areas,
I've uncovered an important part in understanding regeneration.
The process of healing is the same, whether it is for the land,
a human, or any organism.
Renewal comes as part of a new cycle of life,
and it comes out of the ashes of what once was."
